By using a Fiffi hook, the bolter is able to attach his/herself high on the wall in a favorable position ready to place the next bolt. Essential for bolt climbers. Drop forged and durable.
The Fiffi is also used to affect a pull-down rappel function. When doing pull-downs, one places the Fiffi hook into the pull-down station, the rope hangs out of the bottom carabiner eye. A retrieval cord of 2-3mm is attached through the top eyelet & once the rappeller has reached the bottom of the pitch, by simply pulling hard on the retreival cord, the Fiffi unhooks, & drops the rope down the pitch.
*NOTE: extreme care must be exercised when using a Fiffi for this function.
The management of the retrieval line is crucial during the rappels. If it becomes entangled with the descender during the rappel, extreme complications will arise. Take care to keep the retrieval line away from the main line while rappelling. This can not be stressed enough.
